The Italian journal L'Espresso of June 28, 1981 indicates that numbers of high ranking members of the Italian military intelligence organizations were both SMOMs and members of P-2. The list of dual members included General Santovito, the former head of SISMI; Admiral Giovanni Torrisi, the head of the general staff of the Army, and General Giovanni Allavena, head of the intelligence service (then Sifar, which was later split into SISDE and SISMI).

The Information Service Forze Armate (SIFAR) (GV: "Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces") is a former Italian intelligence service.

The SIFAR was divided into several departments, including the General Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces under. The service had more general intelligence responsibilities at home and abroad and was less of a purely technically oriented military intelligence service. These subjects had from 1949 to 1997, the SIOS services (Servizio Operational Information Situazione e) of the three Armed Forces (G2/A2) inne (Sios-Esercito, Sios-Marina, Sios-Aeronautica).

The SIFAR was established in 1965 because of the restructuring of the Ministry of Defence and General Staff of the new Information Service (SID) Difesa replaced.

SIFAR in the press

In the headlines of SIFAR got in the 60s. Because of the danger of a (democratic) takeover of the powerful Communist Party of Italy (PCI), the SIFAR, with the support or at least approval of the CIA destabilization campaigns, and even a coup planned (Marrargiu Capo). It was particularly implicated later Carabinieri chief Giovanni De Lorenzo.

William Randolph Hearst was the founder of the Hearst Corporation. He is considered a very dominating figure in 20th century communications and one of the leading figures of the Spanish American War period. During his career in newspapers, magazines, radio and film broadcasting, he changed the face of the way mass media would be seen throughout the world.

BIOGRAPHY:

HearstWilliam Randolph Hearst was born on April 29,1863. His father was a multi-millionaire miner named George Hearst. His mother was Phoebe Hearst, a school teacher from Missouri. While Hearst was a boy, his father traveled through the West becoming partners in three of the largest mining discoveries ever recorded in American history: the Comstock Lode, Homestake Mine in South Dakota and the Anaconda Mine in Montana. These three discoveries led Hearst to his millions.

As a repayment of a gambling debt, George Hearst in 1880 accepted a small newspaper called the San Francisco Examiner. Hearst at this time was a U.S. Senator and had very little interest in the newspaper. During the mid -1880’s, Hearst’s son William, now a student at Harvard University, wrote to his father demanding to take over the newspaper. His father actually preferred William to manage the mining and ranching interests but William refused this suggestion and became the owner of the Examiner on March 7, 1887. Young Hearst showed a lot of versatility and was determined to make the Examiner popular. He nicknamed the newspaper "The Monarch of the Dailies" and acquired the best equipment and the most talented writers possible. Hearst then went on to publish exposes of corruption and stories filled drama and inspiration.

In 1895, William Hearst purchased the New York Morning Journal and entered into a head-to-head circulation war with his former mentor, Joseph Pulitzer, owner of the New York World. To increase circulation both started to include articles about the Cuban Insurrection. Many stories in both newspaper greatly exaggerated their claims to make the stories more sensational. Both Hearst and Pulitzer published images of Spanish troops placing Cubans into concentration camps where they suffered and died from disease and hunger. The term “Yellow Journalism,” which was derived from the name of "The Yellow Kid" comic strip in the Journal, was used to refer to this style of sensationalized newspaper articles. The American public purchased more newspapers because of this form of writing, and this strongly encouraged Hearst and Pulitzer’s newspapers to write more sensationalized stories. Some of the most sensationalized articles concerned “Butcher Weyler” and his reconcentration policies, and the Cuban Insurrection. Circulation continued to soar as the Journal reported that an American civilian was imprisoned without a trial and stating that no American was safe in Cuba as long as Weyler was in charge. Another major that enraged the American public was written by one of Hearst's reporters, Richard Harding Davis, who came upon the story while on his way back from Cuba. The reporter learned of the story of Senorita Clemencia Arango. Arango was forced out of Cuba for helping the rebels, and was supposedly strip-searched by Spanish detectives. This angered the Victorian ideals of the American public even though the story was found to be in error and that a woman searched Arango and not Spanish male detectives.

Hearst played a huge part in arousing the public’s intention to go to war with Spain. This activity reached its zenith after several years of articles concerning the situation in Cuba, Hearst ran a series of articles blaming the Spanish for the sinking of the MAINE with a mine. Hearst’s powerful articles pushed many Americans towards war with Spain. Because of his leading role in inciting the war, Hearst was nicknamed the “Father of Yellow Journalism.”

Hearst made some very intelligent moves as he tried to out-maneuver Pulitzer. He hired Pulitzer’s writers for more money. Hearst recruited some very talented writers including Ambrose Bierce; Mark Twain; Richard Harding Davis; talented sketch artist Frederic Remington; and the writer of The Red Badge of Courage, author Stephen Crane. In spite of his success, Hearst still felt he needed to expand his business. Hearst chartered the yacht SYLVIA, fitted it out with offices, printing equipment and a darkroom. The vessel arrived off Cuba even before Maj. Gen. Shafter's Fifth Corps, and Hearst headed up his army of reporters, and took to reporting from the field himself.

In 1903, while on his honeymoon in Europe with his wife Millicent Wilson, Hearst decided to start his magazine, Motor . This lead on to an international operation known as Hearst Magazines . Today, Hearst Corp. owns 12 newspapers including the San Francisco Examiner. Hearst Corp. also owns 25 magazines including Cosmopolitan.

Hearst had similar interests to his father. Hearst was interested in politics, and elected twice to the U.S. House of Representatives. His bid to become governor of New York in 1906 failed. Hearst later expanded his business operations into radio, the first businessperson to do this. He later produced movie newsreels, again a first for newspaper publishers. Hearst developed the King Features Syndicate . This provided comic strips and text features and is now the largest distributor in the world of its kind.

William Randolph Hearst died in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Aug. 14,1951. He was 88 years old. All of his sons followed their father’s glory into media and became very successful.

Super-rich elitist William Randolph Hearst, Catholic Knights of Malta high-up, told his national newspaper chain to "puff" Billy Graham and make him a household name.

"In 1949 [two Roman Catholic Knights of Malta] William Randolph Hearst, head of a large publishing empire, and Henry Luce, chief of another, Time, Inc., were both worried about Communism and the growth of liberalism in the United States. . . Billy Graham, an obscure evangelist [opened his poorly attended Crusade for Christ tent meetings in Los Angeles. . . in the same week Russia tested its first atomic bomb. This fresh menace gave Graham his text: "Communism is inspired and directed by the Devil himself, who has declared war against Almighty God. Did you know that the Communists are more rampant in Los Angeles than any other city in America?"]. Hearst and Luce interviewed the obscure preacher and decided he was worthy of their support. Billy Graham became an almost instantaneous national and, later, international figure preaching anti-Communism. In late 1949, Hearst sent a telegram to all Hearst editors: "Puff Graham." The editors did — in Hearst newspapers, magazines, movies, and newsreels. Within two months Graham was preaching to crowds of 350,000" (Ben Bagdikian, The Media Monopoly, p. 39 ff). Illuminus Rockefeller was supportive of Graham's New York Crusade, and his Chase-Manhattan Bank helped him out.

Billy Graham understood that a successful mass ministry would require professional salesmanship and he carefully cultivated contacts in the major media with an eye to marketing his product. He does not however, have an understanding of the faith of Jesus Christ. "Notwithstanding his professed calling, it is apparent that Graham worked the corridors of Congress as well as the private rooms of the White House, sometimes overtly, sometimes quietly, in secret letters and private phone calls. And, quite contrary to Time's assertion, it seems that Graham did more to abet segregation than to end it, actively opposing Martin Luther King Jr.'s use of civil disobedience while endorsing aggressive police tactics and punitive laws."

A Catholic Agenda

Among the chief agents of the papacy are the Knights of Malta. It was two very powerful Knights of Malta, William Randolph Hearst and Henry Luce that made “Billy Graham” a household name. Hearst was the founder and president of a newspaper empire, and was openly known as a liar and manipulator of information. Perhaps the most notorious example of his dishonesty comes from the story of a reporter who was sent to cover a war story. “When the reporter cabled back that there was no war in progress and that he was ready to come home, Hearst reportedly wired back, ‘Please remain. You supply the pictures, and I'll supply the war.’”1 The term “yellow journalism” was originally coined to describe his journalistic practices. This same Hearst ordered his editors to “Puff Graham,” something that Graham himself acknowledged. In a later on-camera interview, the famous evangelist appeared bewildered when describing how certain reporters had told him, “You’ve just been kissed by William Randolph Hearst.” Meanwhile, Henry Luce was the founder of TIME, LIFE, and Fortune magazines, not to mention Sports Illustrated, who in 1961 was called “the giant of twentieth-century American journalism …” by Current Biography. He was also a Yale graduate, and member of the Skull & Bones Society. Henry Luce had articles specifically written about Billy Graham, and put him on the cover of TIME magazine in 1954. The rest, as we know, is history.

It was Luce, along with Hearst who are said to be most influential in making Graham the chief spokesman of Protestant Christianity. This is odd when one considers that both Hearst and Luce were members of a devout Catholic order that openly declares its purpose is “service to … the Holy Father (i.e. the pope).”2 Was it their intent to create a kind of “Protestant Pope” to guide the beliefs of non-Catholics? Whether they intended this or not, that is exactly what Billy Graham would become.

Henry Robinson Luce (April 3, 1898 – February 28, 1967) was an influential American publisher.

Biography

Luce (pronounced like "loose") was born in Dengzhou, China, the son of a Presbyterian missionary and educated in various boarding schools in China and England. At 10, he was sent to the British China Inland Mission Chefoo School, a boarding school at Yantai on the Shandong coast and at 14, he traveled to Europe alone. He first arrived in the U.S. at the age of 15 to attend the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut. Luce split his time between waiting tables after school and editing for the Hotchkiss Literary Monthly, holding the position of editor-in-chief. He later graduated from Yale University in 1920, where he was a member of Skull and Bones.

Luce first met Briton Hadden at Hotchkiss while the latter was editor-in-chief of the school newspaper and Luce worked as an assistant managing editor. The two continued to work together at Yale, where Hadden was chairman and Luce was managing editor of the Yale Daily News.

Luce recalled his relationship with Hadden: "Somehow, despite the greatest differences in temperaments and even in interests, somehow we had to work together. We were an organization. At the center of our lives — our job, our function — at that point everything we had belonged to each other."

After being voted “most brilliant” of his class at Yale, he parted ways with Hadden to embark on history studies at Oxford University for a year and worked as a cub reporter for the Chicago Daily News after his return. In December 1921, Luce joined Hadden at The Baltimore News.

Nightly discussions of the concept of a newsmagazine led the two, both age 23, to quit their jobs in 1922. Later that same year the two formed Time Inc. Having raised $86,000 of a $100,000 goal, the first issue of Time was published on March 3, 1923. Luce served as business manager while Hadden was editor-in-chief. Luce and Hadden annually alternated year-to-year the titles of president and secretary-treasurer. Upon Hadden's sudden death in 1929, Luce assumed Hadden's position.

Luce launched the business magazine Fortune in February of 1930 and founded the pictorial Life magazine in 1936, and launched House & Home in 1952 and Sports Illustrated in 1954. He also produced The March of Time for radio and cinema. By the mid 1960s, Time Inc. was the largest and most prestigious magazine publisher in the world. (Dwight Macdonald, a somewhat reluctant employee at Fortune during the 1930s, referred to him as "Il Luce".)

During his life, Luce supported many programs like Save the Children Federation, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and United Service to China, Inc.

Luce, who remained editor-in-chief of all his publications until 1964, was an influential member of the Republican Party. Holding anti-communist sentiments, he was an instrumental figure behind the so-called "China Lobby," and played a large role in steering American foreign policy and popular sentiment in favor of Nationalist leader Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Soong Mei-ling. Once ambitious to become Secretary of State in a Republican administration, Luce penned a famous article in Life magazine in 1941, called "The American Century," which defined the role of American foreign policy for the remainder of the 20th century (and perhaps beyond).

Luce had two children — Peter Paul and Henry Luce III — with his first wife, Lila Hotz. He married his second wife, Clare Boothe Luce in 1935. He died in Phoenix, Arizona in 1967. At his death he was said to be worth $100 million in Time Inc. stock. Most of his fortune went to the Henry Luce Foundation.

According to the Henry Luce foundation, Henry Luce III died September 8, 2005, age 80, on Fishers Island, New York, of cardiac arrest.

In 1962 and 1963 Alpha 66 launched several raids on Cuba which included attacks on port installations and foreign shipping. When Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963, Luce's Life Magazine purchased the Zapruder Film for $150,000. Soon after the assassination they also successfully negotiated with Marina Oswald the exclusive rights to her story. This story never appeared in print, but in an interview she gave to the Ladies Home Journal in September 1988 she argued: "I believe he worked for the American government... He was taught the Russian language when he was in the military. Do you think that is usual, that an ordinary soldier is taught Russian? Also, he got in and out of Russia quite easily, and he got me out quite easily." Luce published individual frames of Zapruder's film but did not allow the film to be screened in its entirety. It was shown to the public in March 1975 which convinced many that the fatal head shot come from the Grassy Knoll (because of Kennedy's violent backward and leftward movement while the bullet is supposed to have come from the back). Writers such as Noel Twyman, David Lifton, Jack White, John Costella and David Mantik have claimed that the Zapruder Film has been tampered with. Retired from Time/Life in 1964.

Al Barber, President and Chief Operating Officer of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Bridgeport, and former President of CNBC and Chief Financial Officer of NBC, will be the event speaker. He spent 27 years working for General Electric. Three years ago, he was called by a "higher power" to fix and run the largest social service provider in Fairfield County. Catholic Charities agencies, located throughout the country, aim to strengthen communities by providing services and programs that their particular communities need, while empowering people. They help families and individuals overcome tragedy, poverty, and other life challenges. Mr. Barber's topic, "From Corporate America to the Non-Profit World: Challenges, Frustrations, and Rewards," will examine the differences in culture and decision-making in both worlds based on Catholic Social Teaching (CST).

Biography of Al Barber
A native of Rye, NY, Al Barber, 58, is the former Chief Financial Officer of NBC and President of CNBC.

He began his business career at General Electric in 1967 in Pittsfield, MA. In 1984, he came to Bridgeport, where he joined GE Housewares and Audio Division. In 1985, he was named President of GE Railcar Services and, in 1987, was tapped to serve as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of NBC. In 1990, he was named President of CNBC, responsible for the start-up cable service. Under his leadership, CNBC acquired the Financial News Network.

In 1994, Mr. Barber left GE to serve as Chairman and CEO of Stuart Entertainment, the world's leading supplier to Bingo and charitable gaming markets with $130 million in sales. In 2001, he was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of E-Media, an Internet leader in broadband delivery of integrated media streaming and hosting applications. He oversaw the company merger with Zerotree Technologies, and eventual sale to Streaming Media Corporation.

Most recently, Mr. Barber has been President of Corporate Lodging Holdings, a provider of custom lodging solutions to Corporate America. A graduate of Holy Cross College with a B.A. in Economics, Mr. Barber has always been active in the community. His many civic commitments include service to Malta House for single mothers, Saint Catherine's Academy, the diocesan school for children with special needs in Bridgeport, South Avenue Cottage for disabled adults; Family and Children's agency; the Thomas Merton Center, and Saint Camillus Nursing Home in Stamford.

Mr. Barber is a member of the Order of Malta. He and his wife, Gina, have five children and one grandchild. They are members of Saint Aloysius Parish in New Canaan.

NEW YORK, July 13, 2007—Raymond J. Petersen, a trustee of The Hearst Family Trust and a member of the Board of Directors of Hearst Corporation, as well as former executive vice president of Hearst Magazines and one of the magazine industry’s most prominent executives, died July 11th in Palm Beach, Fla. He was 88.

In 1963, Petersen was elected a member of Hearst Corporation’s Board of Directors and four years later was appointed senior vice president of Hearst Magazines. In 1969, Petersen was appointed a trustee of The Hearst Family Trust and a director of the Hearst Foundations. Over the years, Petersen was also renowned for his support of numerous charities and religious and civic organizations.

“Ray’s tireless service to Hearst Corporation, the Trust, and the Foundations, as well as to countless charities and other worthy organizations, was an inspiration to us all,” said Victor F. Ganzi, president and CEO of Hearst Corporation. “We will miss him greatly.”

“His diversity of knowledge and work meant a great deal to the Company,” said George R. Hearst, Jr., chairman of the board of Hearst Corporation and president of The Hearst Foundation, Inc. “Speaking on behalf of the Hearst family, we were very fortunate to have had a person of Ray’s stature helping us as a member of our executive team.”

Said Frank A. Bennack, Jr., vice chairman of the board of Hearst Corporation and chairman of Hearst’s executive committee, “Ray was a consummate salesman and his knowledge of the advertising business helped the growth of many Hearst titles and our other businesses. His contribution to the success of Good Housekeeping, from ad salesman to publishing director over five decades is unexcelled. Outside of Hearst, he helped establish the advertising industry’s self-regulatory bodies and was active and effective as a spokesman against government interference in advertising. He was a pioneer on all fronts as well as a great family man.” Bennack was CEO of Hearst during 23 years of Petersen’s tenure there.

Petersen joined Hearst Corporation in 1948 as an advertising salesperson for Good Housekeeping. He became the magazine’s fashion advertising manager, later its advertising director, and in 1960 was named publisher and vice president of Hearst Magazines. In 1973, he was appointed executive vice president of Hearst Magazines. Petersen served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal.

Among his numerous civic and charitable activities, Petersen served on the board of governors of St. Vincent’s Hospital, Montclair, N.J., as a member of the advisory board of St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center, Harrison, N.Y., and as a director and member of the executive board of the Boy Scouts, Greater New York Council. He was designated a Knight of Malta, one of the highest honors in the Catholic Church, in 1964 by the late Pope John XXIII.

Petersen also served as a vice president and member of the board of directors of the United Service Organizations (USO), and he served on the chairman’s committee of the United Cerebral Palsy Campaign Fund. He was a member of the boards of directors of the American Friends of the Jerusalem Mental Health Center, the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club, the National Crime Prevention Council, and he was an honorary advisor to the board of directors of the Children of Alcoholics Foundation. He also served as director of the corporate board of Covenant House, and as national chairman for Religion in American Life, which gave him its Charles E. Wilson Award in 1985.

Petersen was also active in the educational sector, having served as a member of the Business Committees of Montclair State College and St. Lawrence University, and as a member of the advisory board of Webber College. He received an honorary Doctor of Journalism degree from St. Joseph’s College in 1966. In 1987, President Ronald Reagan appointed him a commissioner of the U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science, Washington, D.C.

Petersen served on the boards of directors of several corporations and business institutions, including Supermarkets General, International Capital and Technology Corporation, A.C. Daily Income Fund Inc., Southwest Forest Industries, and Knox Lumber Company. He served on the board of governors of the Academy of Food Marketing of St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia, and on the board of trustees of the Consumer Research Institute of the Grocery Manufacturers of America Inc. He was also a director of the Executive Committee of the Council of Better Business Bureaus, and later was named vice chairman of its board of directors.

Among his many activities within the advertising industry, Petersen served as a director of the Brand Names Foundation, the Magazine Advertising Bureau, and the Coty Awards Committee. He was an honorary director of the New York Advertising Club, a member of the Advertising Council's Magazine Committee, a member of the Public Service Advisory Committee of the Communications Industries Council, and chairman of the national Advertising Review Council. He was named chairman of the American Advertising Federation in 1978. In 1986, he was elected to the Advertising Hall of Fame, which is administered by the American Advertising Federation, and was inducted in 1987.

King Features Syndicate creates, develops, and distributes comics and other features for newspapers. The syndicate services more than 5,000 newspapers published in more than 30 languages in some 100 countries with the world's best-loved comic strips, including BLONDIE, HAGAR THE HORRIBLE, and BEETLE BAILEY. Its text features offer information and commentary covering a broad range of subjects from politics, advice to the lovelorn, and household hints to financial investment, the arts and crossword puzzles.

King features has long been a leader in the field of character merchandising, licensing the rights to its cartoon characters to manufacturers around the world. The likenesses of POPEYE, BETTY BOOP, and about 75 other characters appear on apparel, greeting cards and stationery, food and ceramic products, and other merchandise. King characters also serve as spokespersons for a wide variety of advertising and public service campaigns.

A native of New York City, Mr. D'Angelo was born on July 4, 1930. He was graduated from St. John's University and began his career with King Features in 1965 as Assistant Treasurer and Controller after nine years in the international and domestic fields with the firm of Haskins and Sells.

In 1968, D'Angelo was named Business Manager of King and was appointed General Manager of the Syndicate and a Vice President of The Hearst Corporation, King Features Division, in 1973. He was architect of an elaborate expansion program which, through the next decade, established King Features as a leading force in such diversified areas as licensing, book publishing, and television and feature films.

D'Angelo was named President of King Features in 1976 and became only the second person in the history of the syndicate to hold the title. He was then appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of King Features Entertainment, formed in 1980 as a subsidiary of The Hearst Corporation. During this time D'Angelo expanded the company's long-time ventures in television and film production and distribution and launched the company into the new home video market.

Under D'Angelo's leadership as President, King Features continued its efforts to create a universal medium for entertainment and information. By acquiring Cowles Syndicate in 1986 and News America Syndicate in 1987, King added an impressive roster of beloved characters to its formidable family, including THE FAMILY CIRCUS, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, and DENNIS THE MENACE, as well as popular columnists, such as Carl Rowan and Dr. Joyce Brothers. D'Angelo was named President of both syndicates. In 1997, he was appointed Chairman of both syndicates.

Mr. D'Angelo is a civic leader and devotes considerable time to fundraising for community and national groups. He is on the Board of Trustees of North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York, and Chairman of the Hospital's Community Relations Committee. Because of his devotion to charitable works for the Roman Catholic Church, he was made Knight in the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Mr. D'Angelo is a Trustee of Emerson College, Boston, as well as a member of Emerson's Development Committee. He also serves on the Board of Advisors of St. John's Uni.versity College of Business Administration and is a Trustee of the J. Edgar Hoover Foundation.

In 1991, he was named to the International Museum of Cartoon Art's Board of Trustees as the institution began preparing a major national and regional fundraising campaign for construction of its new permanent home in Boca Raton, Florida. D'Angelo is President of the Museum and has been one of its major supporters since it opened in Rye Brook in 1974.

In 1989, The National Cartoonists Society named him "Member of the Year" honoring his "25 years of solid support" to the organization. It was the first time NCS had given the award. He is on the Board of Directors of the Newspaper Features Council, and was President of that trade organization for four years.

In 1994, Mr. D'Angelo was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. He is a member of the New York Newspaper Publishers Association and the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association. He is President of the New York City Baseball Federation, Inc. His club memberships include the Artists and Writers Association, Museum of Television & Radio, National Cartoonists Society, Friars Club, Dutch Treat, the New York Athletic Club, National Press Club and Overseas Press Club.

After graduating from high school with no family support, he took a job as an office boy at his local newspaper, the Albany (N.Y) Times Union. Nineteen years later he became publisher of the Times Union, before heading to the helm of The Hearst Newspaper Group.

Now an author and motivational speaker, Bob is also a member of the teaching faculty at the prestigious New School University and the guiding hand of The Hearst Management Institute. His goal is to be an instrument for renewed affirmation that every single person is worthwhile.

A civic leader, Bob has served on boards of directors of Albany Medical College, Siena College, Russell Sage College, St. Peter’s Hospital, Sunnyview Hospital, Albany Institute of History and Art, and Caldwell College, and on the executive committee of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The Cancer Research and Treatment Fund is honored to pay tribute to Alfred E. Smith IV as our 2006 Cancer Survivor of the Year at our Annual Dinner on November 2 at the Hilton Hotel in New York City. He contracted a rare form of throat cancer in his mid thirties but has not let its side affects hinder his service to his profession and his community.

Al is Managing Director of Bear Wagner Specialists LLC, a specialist and member firm of the New York Stock Exchange.

After finishing Iona Prep and Villanova, Al began his Wall Street career as an independent floor broker of the New York Stock Exchange. In 1975, he relocated to Chicago to join Mitchell-Hutchins, where he served as Vice President until 1979 when he returned to New York and was named Partner of CMJ Partners. In 1997, he joined Bear Wagner as Managing Director.

Mr. Smith is a Knight of Malta, Chairman of the Government Relations Committee for the New York Stock Exchange, and Chairman of the Wall Street Division of the Cardinal’s Committee of the Laity. He is the great-grandson of the late legendary Governor of New York and serves as the Director, Secretary, and Dinner Chairman for the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation, as well as Master of Ceremonies at the Annual Alfred E. Smith Foundation Dinner.

Mr. Smith serves as Chair of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers Foundation Board of Directors and is a member of the Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers Board of Directors. History

EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, NC was built by Dino De Laurentiis in 1984. It operated under the name DEG (De Laurentiis Entertainment Group), until 1990 when it was purchased by Carolco (producers of the Terminator movies). George Cooney, owner of EUE/Screen Gems LTD, acquired the Wilmington Studios in 1996 and renamed it EUE/Screen Gems Studios. In 1998 EUE/Screen Gems Studios built a 9th stage in Wilmington and has recently acquired 12 adjacent acres for future expansion.

In 1965 Columbia Pictures acquired a fifty percent intent in the New York based commercial production company EUE. At that time Screen Gems was the television production division of Columbia Pictures. The commercial company was incorporated into the television division and renamed EUE/Screen Gems.

In 1983, Columbia Pictures was sold to Coca-Cola. At that time EUE/Screen Gems and the New York production facility were sold to long time Columbia Pictures Executive, George Cooney.

George Cooney purchased the assets of EUE/Screen Gems from Columbia Pictures in 1983. Prior to acquiring the company, Mr. Cooney served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the division. He joined Columbia Pictures in 1965 and served in a number of administrative positions before being named Executive Vice President of the EUE/Screen Gems division in 1972. While serving as an executive of Columbia Pictures, Mr. Cooney was also Chairman of Bell & Howell/Columbia Pictures Video Services,an early pioneer in home video.

Many charitable organizations have benefited from Mr. Cooney's dedication and commitment. He is Vice Chairman of the New York Medical College and is the former Chairman of its Board of Trustees. Beginning in 1968, he served as a member of the Film Advisory Committee to Vice President Hubert Humphrey and was on the Film Advisory and Promotion Committees of New York City for Mayors John V. Lindsay, Abraham Beame, and Edward Koch. A member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, he served for several years on the Executive Film Committee. He was also Chairman of the Motion Picture Labor Negotiations Committee from 1969 to 1980. Mr. Cooney was appointed by Governor Hugh Carey to the New York State Television & Motion Picture Board and also served on Senator Ralph Marino's Sports & Entertainment Development Committee.

A graduate of Fordham University, Mr. Cooney received an ROTC commission and served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. He is a recipient of the Honorary Degree from the New York Medical College, and the Helen Hayes Humanitarian Award from St. Clare's Hospital. In 1978, he was inducted into the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta and presently serves on its Board of Trustees.Most recently he recieved the William Cullen Bryant Award from New York Medical College for his visionary leadership qualities.

John D. J. Moore, an Executive And a Former Envoy, Dies at 77

John D. J. Moore, a lawyer and executive and a former United States Ambassador to Ireland, died of bone cancer yesterday at his home in Manhattan. He was 77 years old.

Mr. Moore was named Ambassador by President Richard M. Nixon in 1969 and served six years, the longest tenure of any American envoy to Ireland. He negotiated the aviation agreement that brought to fruition a 20-year effort by the United States to obtain landing rights for American carriers in Ireland.

Mr. Moore, a lifelong New Yorker, was a graduate of Yale and the Yale Law School. He practiced law with the firm of White & Case before becoming assistant corporation counsel under Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia and an assistant district attorney under Frank S. Hogan.

Mr. Moore later joined W. R. Grace & Company and became a vice president at its headquarters in New York. He traveled extensively in Latin America and Europe and was chairman of the Latin American committee of the Business Council and vice chairman of the Council of the Americas. Adviser to Nixon

Mr. Moore received the Order of Merit of Equador and the Gold Insignia of the Pan American Society of the United States. In 1958 and 1959, he accompanied then Vice President Nixon to South America and the Soviet Union, serving as an adviser.

He was also a founder and first chairman of the Ireland-United States Council, which promotes economic relations between the two countries. His longtime interest in problems of the mentally ill led to his service as vice president of the American Schizophrenia Foundation and to his establishment in 1960 of the Family Care Foundation for the Mentally Ill.

Mr. Moore's wife, the former Mary Foote, died in 1975. He is survived by a son, John D., of San Marino, Calif.; four daughters, Dr. Anne Lisio and Martha Battles, both of New York, Julia Bartholomew, of Philadelphia, and Mary, of Boston; a brother, Richard, of Washington, and 10 grandchildren.

The Chancellor of the Order, John D. J. Moore, was a Director of the Grace company until at least 1982 having been with the company since 1946 managing its Peruvian operations from 1947-1950. From 1969-1975 Moore was the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland.

Passionate is also a good description of Grace's feelings about peace activists, affirmative action, environmental programs, government bureaucracy and the media, all of which he loathes. Described by one biographer as "a living example of the roots of Reaganism," Grace hates the New Deal and passionately yearns for a time when business was unfettered. But he also stands in the older SMOM tradition of kings and crusading knights. His stamp on the eastern chapter of SMOM, which he has led for many years, is clearly reflected in the choice of members, eight of whom are on the board of W.R. Grace, including the order's chancellor, John D.J. Moore, former U.S. ambassador to Ireland.

An earlier version of this page speculated that the identity of the author of this page was John D. J. Moore, the American Ambassador to Ireland in 1972. Ambassador Moore (1910 to 1988) was appointed by President Nixon in 1969 and served until 1975. He had been a member of the OSS and CIA. He was also a Knight of Malta.

But there is one institution that stands out as the center of the SMOM in the United States—W.R. Grace & Company. J. Peter Grace, the company chairman, is also president of the American section of SMOM. No less than eight knights, including the chancellor of the order, John D.J. Moore (who was ambas-sador to Ireland under Nixon and Ford), are directors of W.R. Grace.

Felix E. Larkin, 82, Ex-President Of W.R. Grace and a U.S. Counsel

Felix E. Larkin, the former president and chairman of W. R. Grace & Company and a lawyer at the Defense Department who oversaw the development of a uniform Code of Military Justice, died Sunday night at New Rochelle Hospital. He was 82 years old and lived in Mamaroneck, N.Y.

Mr. Larkin died of pulmonary failure, said a spokesman for W. R. Grace, the chemical, natural resources and retailing conglomerate based in New York City.

Born in New York City in 1909, Mr. Larkin received a bachelor's degree from Fordham University, a master's from New York University and a law degree from St. John's University before working as a law secretary for Judge James G. Wallace of the Court of General Sessions of New York County from 1939 to 1947.

After World War II, Mr. Larkin served as vice chairman of the Naval Board of Review for Courts Martial and as assistant counsel to the Senate War Investigating Committee.

In 1947, he joined the legal staff of the Defense Department, and in 1949, Defense Secretary Louis A. Johnson appointed him general counsel.

While at the department, Mr. Larkin worked on the drafting of a Code of Military Justice for all the armed services intended to protect the accused and to increase public confidence in the fairness of court-martials. The uniform code superseded the Articles of War for the Army and Air Force and the Articles of Government of the Navy.

He retired from the Defense Department in 1951 to become an executive with W. R. Grace, a company then still primarily devoted to shipping. He served in a number of executive positions as the company expanded and diversified into insurance, aviation, importing and exporting, merchant banking, trucking, chemicals and retailing.

In 1971, Mr. Larkin became president of the company. He was elected chairman in 1974 and was appointed chairman of the executive committee in 1981, a position he held until he retired in 1986.

Mr. Larkin was a trustee of Fordham University from 1969 to 1978. He was chairman of the board of trustees from 1970 to 1977, when he was named a trustee emeritus.

Mr. Larkin's wife, Evelyn Wallace Larkin, died last year. He is survived by two sons, John A., of Wyomissing, Pa., and James W., of Bronxville, N.Y.; a daughter, Nancy Larkin Carr of Larchmont, N.Y.; a brother, Leo A. Larkin of Forest Hills, Queens; four sisters, Rita Cuskley of Mamaroneck, Eileen Reid of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., Sister Mary Kateri Larkin of San Antonio and Patricia Smith of Denver, and 10 grandchildren.

Francis Anthony "Frank" Keating (born February 10, 1944) is an American politician from Oklahoma. Keating served as the 25th Governor of Oklahoma. His first term began in 1995 and ended in 1999. Keating won reelection to a second term, which ended in 2003.

As of 2006, Keating is the second Governor in Oklahoma history to hold two consecutive terms and the only Republican to accomplish that feat.

Early life

Born Francis Anthony Keating on February 10, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri, Keating was not even six months old when his family moved to Oklahoma and settled in Tulsa. A devout Roman Catholic, Keating attended Cascia Hall Preparatory School in Tulsa, from which he graduated in 1962. Keating was accepted to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.. He would go on to receive as Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1966. After receiving his degree, Keating would return to Oklahoma to further his education. He received a Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1969.

Upon receiving his law degree, Keating began his career in law enforcement. The same year he finished law school, Keating was made a Special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Relocated to the West Coast, Keating was charged with investigating terrorism incidents in the area and other various duties. After years on the coast, Keating would return to Tulsa to become an Assistant District Attorney. In 1973, Keating, under the Republican Party banner, was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He would only serve a single term in the House, until 1975, when he was elected to the Oklahoma Senate. He would serve in the Senate from 1975 until 1981, winning reelection in 1978. While in the Senate, Keating rose to become the highest ranking Republican as the Senate Minority Leader.

Governor of Oklahoma

After two years of private life, in 1994, Keating received the Republican nomination for Governor of Oklahoma. In a three way race, Keating received 47% of the vote and defeated the Democratic nominee by 17 points. Keating was sworn in as the 25th Governor of Oklahoma on January 9, 1995.

Oklahoma City Bombing

Governor Keating had little time to relax upon taking office. Within three months of taking office, on April 19, the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was destroyed in the Oklahoma City bombing, in which the lives of 168 Oklahomans were lost and over 800 people were injured. The blast destroyed or damaged more than 300 buildings in the surrounding area, leaving several hundred people homeless and shutting down offices in downtown Oklahoma City.

Governor Keating immediately mobilized relief and rescue teams to handle the crisis, assuring prompt assistance. Over 12,000 people participated in relief and rescue operations in the days following the blast. The national and worldwide humanitarian response was immediate and overwhelming. Governor Keating declared a state of emergency, which allowed FEMA to activated 11 of its Urban Search and Rescue Task Forces to assist in rescue and recovery operations.

The national focus climaxed on April 23, when President Bill Clinton, along with Governor Keating and the Reverend Billy Graham, spoke in Oklahoma City. In the weeks following the bombing, rescue efforts ceased and the building was imploded. Through both his own works and the works of his wife Cathy Keating, Governor Keating gained both national and international attention for his efforts to help the victims and their families. Governor Keating also created a $6 million fund to assist victims and provide for scholarships for children who have lost a parent in the attack.

To resist Grand Jury subpoenas, to suppress the names of offending clerics, to deny, to obfuscate, to explain away; that is the model of a criminal organization, not my church."

Gov. Frank Keating received his undergraduate degree in history from Georgetown University and returned to Oklahoma to earn his law degree at the University of Oklahoma in 1969. After service as an FBI agent, Keating was a local prosecutor in Tulsa. He later served in both houses of the Oklahoma Legislature, rising to minority leader of the State Senate, and was named U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma in 1981. From 1985 through 1993 he served in Washington as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, Associate General and as General Counsel at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. In 1994, Keating was elected Governor of Oklahoma, and in 1998 he became only the second person and the first Republican to be re-elected to a second consecutive term. During his time as Governor, Keating has mobilized state clergy of all faiths to emphasize prayer and public awareness in response to such social ills as drug abuse, child abuse, divorce and domestic violence, and his statewide initiative to strengthen marriage has won national attention. Keating is term limited and will assume the presidency of the American Council of Life Insurers in Washington after he leaves office in January, 2003. He and his wife Cathy have three children, and their first grandchild, a granddaughter, was born July 4. Governor Keating is a lifelong Catholic communicant. In 1980 he received a papal appointment as a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre. He and his family attend St. Joseph's Old Cathedral and Corpus Christi Church in Oklahoma City.

Gov Keating's brother Martin wrote a bizarre book about the bombing of a Federal Building with antihero named TOM McVay copyrighted almost 2 years BEFORE the OKC Blast. It is now available as "The Last Jihad" ISBN 0964704811 BUT has changed from the original manuscript. An M. Keating also published a book in 1988 called "The City that Refused to Die" wherein a group of Oklahomans were blowing up buildings. That Frank Keating became a member of the Knights of Malta in 1988. Coincidence ? Not sure.

Rainier III, Prince of Monaco (Rainier Louis Henri Maxence Bertrand Grimaldi; 31 May 1923 – 6 April 2005), styled His Serene Highness The Sovereign Prince of Monaco, ruled the Principality of Monaco for almost fifty-six years, making him one of the longest ruling monarchs of the 20th century. Though he was best known outside of Europe for having married American actress Grace Kelly, he was also responsible for reforms to Monaco's constitution and for expanding the principality's economy beyond its traditional gambling base. Actions as Prince

After ascending the throne, Prince Rainier III worked assiduously to recoup Monaco's lustre, which had become tarnished through neglect (especially financial) and scandal (his mother, Princess Charlotte, took a noted jewel thief known as René the Walking Stick as her lover). According to numerous obituaries, the prince was faced upon his ascension with a treasury that was practically empty. The holder of 55 percent of the nation's reserves, the Societé Monégasque de Banques et de Métaux Précieux, was bankrupt. The small nation's traditional gambling clientele, largely European aristocrats, found themselves with reduced funds after World War II. Other gambling centers had opened to compete with Monaco, many of them successfully. To compensate for this loss of income, Prince Rainier decided to promote Monaco as a tax haven, commercial center, real-estate development opportunity, and international tourist attraction. The early years of his reign saw the overweening involvement of the Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis, who took control of the Société des Bains de Mer and envisioned Monaco as solely a gambling resort. Prince Rainier regained control of the Société in 1964, effectively ensuring that his vision of Monaco would be implemented.

As Prince of Monaco, Rainier III also was responsible for the principality's new constitution in 1962 which significantly reduced the power of the sovereign. (He suspended the previous Constitution in 1959, saying that it "has hindered the administrative and political life of the country.") The changes ended autocratic rule, placing power with the prince and a National Council of eighteen elected members.

At the time of his death, he was the world's second longest-serving head of state, ranking just below King Rama IX of Thailand. During the last two or three years of his life, Rainier was in the custom of asking his valet each morning, "Has Rama survived the night? Or did I just move up in the ranks?"
