I have flown in these kind of plane many times, also in terrible weather.
Dash 8's are sturdy propeller commuter planes.
apparently, the newer models have "issues" that made Scandinavian Air Service ground these planes.

not done elsewhere.
human errors ?

Forty-nine people have died after a passenger plane crashed into a house in Buffalo, New York state.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7887555.stm

The Continental Connection flight 3407 was five minutes from Buffalo airport when it came down at 2210 (0310 GMT).

Officials said there were no survivors from the 44 passengers and four crew on board the flight from Newark. One person on the ground also died.

It is not clear what caused the crash. There was reported to be light snow and fog at the time.

TV footage showed a house engulfed in flames and the tail of the plane sticking out of the ground.

Officials said surrounding homes suffered only superficial damage. Twelve other homes were evacuated around the crash site in Clarence Center, a suburb of Buffalo.

State police spokeswoman Rebecca Gibbons said that of the 48 people on the plane, "there were no survivors".

Erie County Executive Chris Collins said there were three people in the house that was hit.

One died and the other two - believed to be a woman and child - managed to escape with apparently minor injuries, he said.

'Dropped off radar'

The twin-prop Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, operated by Colgan Air, was flying from Newark airport in New Jersey to Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

US media say a recording of Buffalo's air traffic control before the crash showed no concerns by either the controller or the pilot.

However, a minute later, the controller was unable to contact flight 3407 and asked other planes in the area if they could spot it.

One airport official said he had been told "the plane simply dropped off the radar screen".

Eyewitnesses spoke of hearing unusual sounds coming from the plane before it crashed.

"It sounded quite loud, and then the sound stopped," David Luce, who lives 150 yards (137m) from the crash site, told the Buffalo News.

"Then one or two seconds later, there was a thunderous explosion. I thought something hit our house. It shook our whole house."

He described going to the scene of the crash and seeing flames up to 50ft (15m) high.

"The house was already flattened. There was no house, just a pile of rubbish and still burning," he said.

Dave Bissonette, emergency control director in Clarence, described the crash as a "catastrophic event".

"It's remarkable that it only took one house," he added.

"As devastating as that was, it could have easily wiped out that entire neighbourhood.

"The fuselage of the plane lies directly on the footprint of the house. It basically dove right into the top of the house from my perspective, and again I am no expert on recreations, but it landed on the house," he said.

Investigation

Relatives of the victims have been gathering at a hastily arranged family assistance centre.

Chris Kausner said his sister Elise, a law student, was on the flight.

"I'm thinking about the fact that my mother has to fly home from Florida and what I'm going to tell my two sons," he said.

Officials say the fire had been brought under control and the area has been sealed off.

An investigation into the accident is expected to begin at midday local time on Friday, when the site has cooled down enough.

The Federal Aviation Administration is sending a team of investigators to the scene.

Continental Airlines expressed profound sadness over the crash and said it was working closely with Colgan Air to "provide as much support as possible for all concerned".

The wind in Buffalo is madness. Hell, we've been getting 40-50 MPH gusts in NEPA from the same jet system or whatever.

these planes are good for heavy wind and turbulence.
I flew in one during full storm once.
shaky as hell, but these planes can ( could ) take it.

New York state plane crash victim was 9/11 widow

Beverley Eckert, one of the passengers killed, was flying to Buffalo to mark her late husband's birthday

One of the passengers killed when a turboprop passenger plane crashed near Buffalo, New York, was the widow of a businessman who died in the September 11 attacks, relatives said today.

Beverly Eckert, 54, had been travelling to Buffalo for a weekend marking what would have been her late husband's 58th birthday, her sister told the Buffalo News. "We know she was on that plane," Sue Bourque told the newspaper. "And now she's with him."

Eckert's husband, Sean Rooney, was a Buffalo native and she was heading to the city from Newark airport in New Jersey to celebrate his birthday with family members, as well as to present a scholarship award at a local high school set up in Rooney's honour.

Rooney was working for Aon, a reinsurance and consulting firm, on the 105th floor of the World Trade Centre's south tower, the second of the two to be struck by a plane. He telephoned his wife to say he had made several attempts to escape using stairs but had been beaten back by heat and smoke. The couple talked about their life together before the call ended with the sounds of a loud explosion.

Eckert continued to live in their home in Stamford, Connecticut, and became joint chair of the Voices of September 11 group, which assists victims' families and collects testimony of the events of the day.

The Buffalo News identified two other likely victims from Continental Connection flight 3407: Ellyce Kausner, a law student, and Maddy Loftus, whose friends have said was travelling for a reunion of Buffalo State university hockey players. Colgan Air, which operated the flight, has not confirmed the names of any of those killed.

THIS IS REALLY FISHY! ECKERT WAS WITH ALL THE CENTRALIZATION OFFERED BY THE CFR 911 WHITEWASH COMMISSION!
DID SHE START ASKING THE "WRONG" QUESTIONS? WHAT ARE THE ODDS THAT BOTH HUSBAND AND WIFE GO DOWN IN SEPARATE PLANE CRASHES IN NY?

(The odds of being killed on a single trip in an airliner accident is 52.6 million to 1. The odds are lower for smaller aircraft.

WASHINGTON – Beverly Eckert, one of the victims of Continental Flight 3407, was a Sept. 11 widow who put her never-ending grief to good use to make the country safer.

Just last week, Eckert was at the White House with Barack Obama, part of a meeting the president had with relatives of those killed in the 2001 attacks and the bombing of the USS Cole to discuss how the new administration would handle terror suspects.

"She was such an important part of all of our work," said Mary Fetchet, another 9/11 family activist. She learned Eckert was aboard the plane from another close Eckert family friend now headed to Buffalo. Officials investigating the crash have not yet confirmed she was on board the plane.

Eckert was one of the most visible, tearful faces in the aftermath of the terror attacks.

She cried as she told the story about how her husband Sean Rooney — her high school sweetheart — was on the phone in the World Trade Center telling her he loved her when suddenly there was a loud explosion and nothing more.

She cried in Congress as she tried to make the government do a better job protecting its citizens from terrorism.

Eckert was part of a small group of Sept. 11 widows, mothers, and children who became amateur lobbyists, ultimately forcing lawmakers in 2004 to pass sweeping reforms of the U.S. intelligence apparatus.

They spent months walking the halls of Congress. All of the women were grieving, but Eckert seemed unable or uninterested in holding back her tears.

When it was over and they'd won passage of the intelligence reform law, Eckert vowed to quit her high-profile role "cold turkey." All she wanted, she said, was to go home, buy groceries, and return to something like a regular life.

"I did all of this for Sean's memory, I did it for him," she said, crying again. "There is a euphoria in knowing that we reached the top of the hill. ... I just wanted Sean to come home from work. Maybe now, someone else's Sean will get to come home."

Eckert was flying to her hometown Thursday night when the plane crashed on approach to the Buffalo airport. She had planned on celebrating her late husband's 58th birthday.

After the 2001 attacks, she co-chaired the 9/11 Family Steering Committee, a group of activists devoted to exposing government failures that led up to the 2001 attacks, and fixing them.

She pushed for a 9/11 Commission
. She pushed the Bush administration to provide more information to the commission. And when the commission's work was over, she pushed Congress to adopt their recommendations.

It was not an easy role for her.

One night after a long day at Congress, she found herself in the New York City train station, without a connecting train to her Connecticut home.

"We slept in the train station. We had no place else to go. That's when you look at yourself and say, 'What am I doing? How can we possibly get this done?'."

As Congress hemmed and hawed, Eckert vowed to sleep there, too, if it would get the law passed.

9/11 Widow Killed in Buffalo Plane Crash

****Here's an article written by Beverly Eckert in 2003 before she died.

http://www.commondreams.org/views03/1220-04.htm

My Silence Cannot Be Bought
by Beverly Eckert

I've chosen to go to court rather than accept a payoff from the 9/11 victims compensation fund. Instead, I want to know what went so wrong with our intelligence and security systems that a band of religious fanatics was able to turn four U.S passenger jets into an enemy force, attack our cities and kill 3,000 civilians with terrifying ease. I want to know why two 110-story skyscrapers collapsed in less than two hours and why escape and rescue options were so limited.

I am suing because unlike other investigative avenues, including congressional hearings and the 9/11 commission, my lawsuit requires all testimony be given under oath and fully uses powers to compel evidence.

The victims fund was not created in a spirit of compassion. Rather, it was a tacit acknowledgement by Congress that it tampered with our civil justice system in an unprecedented way. Lawmakers capped the liability of the airlines at the behest of lobbyists who descended on Washington while the Sept. 11 fires still smoldered.

And this liability cap protects not just the airlines, but also World Trade Center builders, safety engineers and other defendants.

The caps on liability have consequences for those who want to sue to shed light on the mistakes of 9/11. It means the playing field is tilted steeply in favor of those who need to be held accountable. With the financial consequences other than insurance proceeds removed, there is no incentive for those whose negligence contributed to the death toll to acknowledge their failings or implement reforms. They can afford to deny culpability and play a waiting game.

By suing, I've forfeited the "$1.8 million average award" for a death claim I could have collected under the fund. Nor do I have any illusions about winning money in my suit. What I do know is I owe it to my husband, whose death I believe could have been avoided, to see that all of those responsible are held accountable. If we don't get answers to what went wrong, there will be a next time. And instead of 3,000 dead, it will be 10,000. What will Congress do then?

So I say to Congress, big business and everyone who conspired to divert attention from government and private-sector failures: My husband's life was priceless, and I will not let his death be meaningless. My silence cannot be bought.

Beverly Eckert, whose husband died at the World Trade Center, is the founder of Voices of September 11th, a victims advocacy group.

The corporate media is already claiming that ice brought down this airplane, but the aircraft had de-icing systems, and no other aircraft in the area was reporting icing problems at the time.

9/11 widow among victims of crash near Buffalo
Beverly Eckert was flying to her hometown to mark late husband's birthday

Beverly Eckert, left, shown here with fellow 9/11 widow Mary Fetchet on Capitol Hill in 2004, was among those killed in the crash of Flight 3407, her sister said.

WASHINGTON - One of the victims of Thursday night's fiery plane crash in New York state, Beverly Eckert, was a Sept. 11 widow who put the never-ending grief over the death of her husband to good use to make the country safer.

Yes, I know this, I'm talking jet stream not literally jet engine aircraft.

FRIDAY THE 13TH
44TH DAY OF THE YEAR - OBOMBA 44TH PREZ.
322 DAYS TIL END OF 2009
( I know, I know.... But the NWO seems to use these special days to "sacrifice" people... so)

Please see:

From a correspondent:

The fact that this was one of the "Jersey Girls" who was key in inaugurating the US 9/11 Commission, the fact that she talked with Obama exactly one week before her death, the fact that this occurred just after Senator Patrick Leahy called for a national truth commission investigating the crimes of the Bush Administration, the fact that this occurred on satanically significant Friday the 13th and the fact that many who have in any way threatened the New World Order die violently by "accidental plane crash" or "suicide" as well as by "sudden heart attack" is meant to send a fear-based message to any who would do likewise.

It also sends a message that we the people had together start doing more than "contacting our elected representatives"!

9/11 Widow Killed in Buffalo Plane Crash

By DEVLIN BARRETT, Associated Press Writer Devlin Barrett, In this Friday, May 24, 2002 file photo, Beverly Eckert, 50, of Stamford, Conn., AP – In this Friday, May 24, 2002 file photo, Beverly Eckert, 50, of Stamford, Conn., holds a picture of her …

WASHINGTON – One of the victims of the Buffalo commuter plane crash, Beverly Eckert, was a September 11th widow -- one of the so-called "Jersey Girls" -- who put her never-ending grief to good use to make the country safer.

President Barack Obama, speaking in the White House's East Room, said Eckert "was an inspiration to me and to so many others, and I pray that her family finds peace and comfort in the hard days ahead."

A week before her death, Eckert met with Obama at the White House as part of a group of 9/11 families and relatives of those killed in the bombing of the USS Cole, discussing how the new administration would handle terror suspects.

Eckert was flying to Buffalo Thursday night to celebrate what would have been her husband Sean Rooney's 58th birthday.

When he died in the World Trade Center, she became one of the most visible, tearful faces in the aftermath of the terror attacks.

Carol Ashley, whose daughter died at the World Trade Center, said the grim details of Eckert's death are particularly painful to Eckert's friends among 9/11 families.

"The fact that it was a plane crash, it was fire, it was reminiscent of 9/11 that way, that's just very difficult," said Ashley, a retired schoolteacher from Long Island.

Beverly Eckert carried that grief to Congress as she tried to make the government do a better job protecting its citizens from terrorism. Her husband worked at Aon Corp., a risk management firm, at the 98th floor of the south tower.

Eckert would cry when she told the story about how her husband — who was her high school sweetheart — called her on the morning of the attacks, and told her he loved her just before there was a loud explosion and nothing more.

She became part of a small group of 9/11 widows, mothers, and children who became amateur lobbyists, ultimately forcing lawmakers in 2004 to pass sweeping reforms of the U.S. intelligence apparatus.

She pushed for a 9/11 Commission. She pushed the Bush administration to provide more information to the commission. And when the commission's work was over, she pushed Congress to adopt their recommendations.

For Eckert, the public role was not easy.

One night after a long day at Congress, she found herself in the New York City train station, without a connecting train to her home in Stamford, Connecticut. "We slept in the train station. We had no place else to go. That's when you look at yourself and say, 'What am I doing? How can we possibly get this done?'."

As Congress hemmed and hawed, Eckert vowed to sleep there, too, if it would get the law passed.

After the law passed, Eckert turned her energies to Habitat for Humanity, helping build homes for low-income families.

"I'm in shock, I just can't believe it," said Carie Lemack, whose mother died September 11th on one of the hijacked planes. "Beverly had a can-do attitude about everything, and she never gave up."

Again? Really? Small plane, in terrible weather, flying low. Not everything is a dastardly plot by Baron von Rothlisberger.
